Princess Anne man sentenced to life behind bars in 2017 murder case
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – A Somerset County judge has sentenced Donte Sumpter to life without the possibility of parole for killing Arthur Alford back in 2017.
Sumpter was convicted on all counts back in April, including first and second degree murder, armed robbery, armed carjacking, and use of a firearm in a violent crime. Sumpter also has two prior felony convictions for first degree assault and armed robbery.
On September 24, 2017, Sumpter shot Alford twice in the head inside a vehicle that was parked in a driveway on Freetown Road in Princess Anne. He then dragged Alford out of the vehicle and left him lying in the driveway before driving off in Alford’s vehicle. Alford was later pronounced dead at PRMC, and detectives found the vehicle and weapon less than one mile away later the same evening.
Further investigation revealed that Alford purchased the vehicle from Sumpter the day prior.
