New heated pool space unveiled, helps fill void in community

SALISBURY, Md. – Gym members are enjoying the new pool that’s finally open at the Richard A. Henson YMCA.

The new pool has three separate areas that include two 25-yard laps for races, a large space for swim lessons and group exercise lessons.

We’re told this new indoor heated pool area fills a big need in the community for warm water activities, and can also provide a space for lessons for young children to learn water safety.

“Being on the eastern shore surrounded by water, it’s so important to expose kids especially to water,” said the director of the Richard A. Henson YMCA, Deanna Harrell. “This will definitely help us expand the programs that we’re already offering.”

The next project on the books is a brand new outdoor pool. The new pool and pavilion will be a hub for summer camp, and officials hope to have it done by the end of next May.
