Millsboro PD welcomes first ever victims specialist
MILLSBORO, Del. – The Millsboro Police Department is adding another woman to their team, but she won’t be handing out tickets. Instead Shea Wise will be focusing on victims of crime as the police force’s first ever victim’s specialist.
“My heart is here in Millsboro so it means everything to me just to be able to serve my community,” exclaims Wise.
The Millsboro native is the latest addition to the Millsboro Police Department.
“Being a victim of a crime is a fearful thing for a lot of people, the police department is good at training their officers to investigate and solve these crimes. The victims service specialist will help us in being able to show compassion,” explains Det. David Moyer.
And that’s exactly what Wise has set out to do, to be that person the community can count on.
“Sometimes they don’t have anyone else or they don’t know where to turn and that’s where I step in and I be whatever they need me to be in that moment,” says Wise.
Which is something the Millsboro Police Department was desperate for.
“The Town of Millsboro is growing at one of the largest rates in Sussex county with that being said are population is increasing we want to make sure all our victims of crimes are being serviced.”
And while Wise focuses on helping every victim, whether from a small petty crime to major ones, she’ll also be a driving force in bringing the community closer.
“I think this is something that Millsboro was missing so I think that Chief Calloway worked really hard to get this position here and to get it started and we’re just all excited that it’s finally here. And I think that it will bridge the gap between the police officers and the community.”
