Maryland SHA officials host meeting for roundabout proposal in Ocean Pines

OCEAN PINES, Md. – In Ocean Pines, residents spent the evening talking with state highway officials about creating a roundabout in the area to help deal with traffic congestion. SHA engineers and planners were on hand to answer any questions or concerns residents may have about the proposed project. A number of display boards and stations were set up for people to get more information about the roundabout. Officials say the roundabout is the best answer to relieve congestion at the north gate entrance. But it seems feelings are mixed about the proposal. SHA officials say if not everyone is on board with the idea, they may have to come up with another solution.

“We’re trying to educate people about roundabouts, to get their input about roundabouts and to see if they support the idea we are hoping that they will simply because it is the best solution but if they don’t then will have to reevaluate,” said SHA District Engineer James Meredith.

Officials say that after looking over all the comments residents wrote down their thoughts on the roundabout, they say they’ll make a decision on whether or not they’ll move forward with the project in the near future.
