Construction begins on new park

BETHANY BEACH, Del. – A project 15 years in the making finally saw its official ground breaking Friday morning.

The vacant land along Route 1 and Route 26 will now be turned into a brand new park, complete with benches, fountains, open pavilions, and a small playground area.

Bethany Beach Town Council purchased the land back in 2004, and recently sent out surveys to residents asking what they’d like to see. After 1,500 residents polled and multiple public meetings, the construction finally got underway.

Council member Rosemary Hardiman says this park was for the people, and it was important to make sure they had a say in what went into the final design.

Construction is expected to take six months to complete.
