SMYRNA, Del. – Smyrna Police arrested three people earlier this week following a recent burglary and theft investigation.

The investigation began on July 13th after police received a report of a residential burglary in the unit block of N. Main Street. Over the course of the next several days, detectives were able to identify 63-year-old Donald McCurdy and 35-year-old Tiffany Burkett, both of Smyrna, as suspects.

Further investigation led police to learn that the two suspects used a stolen check from this burglary to make a fraudulent transaction at a Dover bank.

On Monday, McCurdy was located and taken into custody. Police also found 38-year-old Michael McCurdy in the vehicle, who was wanted on a bench warrant out of Kent County, and took him into custody as well. Burkett was located a short time later on foot in the downtown Smyrna area and was taken into custody.

Donald McCurdy was charged with second degree forgery, second degree conspiracy, identity theft, and theft under $1500 where the victim is over 62. He was released on his own recognizance pending a future court hearing.

Burkett was charged with second degree burglary, second degree conspiracy, and criminal mischief under $1500. She is currently being held on $12,500 secured bond.
