“The economy is good, people are buying bigger boats they’re making more money they’re more willing to spend more money in the tournament,” Jennifer Blunt, the tournament director said. “We hope in the next two years to see a million dollar payout, which would be huge.”

But it wasn’t just fishermen who had a chance to reel in the big bucks, local businesses benefited too.

“It’s bringing people into town, spending money, the marinas are making money off the fuel and the restaurants and bars are making a lot of money, it just brings more money into town,” Blunt said.

Not everyone cared for the money, some just wanted to go enjoy some fishing with their friends.

“It’s just a good time to get away from work and forget about what your worries are,” Clinton Foster, an angler in the tournament said.

The tournament also donated $3,000 to Berlin Little League Baseball, who will play in the upcoming regional tournament in Connecticut.
