Experts offering tips to prevent mold in homes during humid days

LEWES, Del. – As the temperatures rise so is the humidity, which can cause some major mold issues in your home. Which is why experts are offering some very important tips to prevent mold and mildew in that humid weather.

Officials say one of the biggest things is to make sure you keep moisture out of your home by keeping all of your windows and doors closed. Officials say you should be changing your filters, and making sure your HVAC is working properly. They stress that you should also make sure your AC is on at all times, and keep all of your vents open to prevent condensation from forming, which can lead to mold and other issues.

“It’s better to pay a $300 electric bill then to pay a $30,000 cleaning bill for your house. And [with] that musty odor, then you’re talking medical and allergy issues and then you’ve got a much greater problem,” said Sussex Environmental Consultants Owner Susan White.

Experts add that you can also buy a whole-house dehumidifier if you continue to have trouble achieving balanced humidity in your home.
