Wico. Co. Sheriff’s Office in dire need of more deputies
WICOMICO CO., Md. – The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office is in dire need of more deputies. Deputies that will help increase their patrol unit to cover the growing population in the county.
A need the Wicomico County Council is trying to meet. They’ve drafted emergency legislation to open three new deputy positions for the sheriff’s office, but when those positions will become available is still up in the air.
The sheriff’s office is hoping to get those positions filled as soon as possible so deputies can answer more calls for service and provide the best level of policing for all county residents.
Lt. Tim Robinson explains, “This will help augment deputies on patrol and not only will it give us more deputies on the road, but it will also help shorten down response times because some of our rural areas some of our deputies are covering large areas.”
Lt. Robinson tells 47 ABC he’s hopeful they’ll be able to hire three new deputies by July, but that’s only if county council approves the positions as emergency legislation.
A public hearing has been set for June 18th. That’s when county council will decide whether or not they will continue with the emergency legislative process or the traditional way, which would require the County Executive’s signature and a 60 day wait period until it takes effect.
