Plans for vacant waterfront lot get final approval
SALISBURY, Md. – In Salisbury, planning officials have had quite the busy agenda as they sift through numerous development projects planned for the city.
And on Thursday, the city approved plans for a major development at the Salisbury Marina.
Marina Landing has been in the works for some time now, it was a piece of city owned property that was put out for bid and the Salisbury redevelopment group took over.
The Salisbury Planning and Zoning Commission approved plans to build a public boat house, a renovated marina, 50 water front apartments plus a retail and restaurant portion too.
It’s a project that’s important for the city since this area has sat vacant for far too long.
“It’s waterfront property that we were accepting as grass, serving no purpose. It was not a designated event space nothing happened there, just literally wasted land that we were doing nothing with and obviously we want it to be economically productive, we want it to be revenue producing for the city,” explains Salisbury Mayor Jake Day.
With the Salisbury Development Group getting the final approval, Mayor Day says we will start seeing some changes coming to the lot in the next 6 months or so.
The city still has some work to do on their end, but we’re told that shouldn’t take too long. the city owned this property for years, but SDG will be acquiring part of the land and then long term leasing the rest.
