Volunteer signup officially open for Salisbury’s 2019 National Folk Festival

SALISBURY, Md. – There’s a little over 4 months until the 2019 National Folk Festival and if you’d like to play a part in making it happen, now you have your chance.

Signups for volunteers officially opened Tuesday. Organizers tell 47 ABC it takes about 800 volunteers to help the festival run smoothly. You can volunteer individually or in groups, with shifts averaging three to four hours long. The hours also qualify for students in need of community service hours to graduate.

People are needed to volunteer backstage behind the scenes, as part of the “Bucket Brigade” collecting donations, at information stations and more.  We’re told the festival wouldn’t be possible without all the people who donate their time to help.

“Volunteers are the backbone of this festival. They’re the superstars of this festival. They’re the reason the festival succeeds. It is a free event but it’s not inexpensive. And one of the ways that we are able to give access to all and have this free 3-day festival is with the support of volunteers,” says Caroline O’Hare with the National Folk Festival.

O’Hare tells 47 ABC that 97 percent of last year’s volunteers say they’ll be returning this year. But they can never have too many people willing to lend a hand.
