Heritage members look to save Wallops Lifeboat Station

WALLLOPS, Va. – A piece of history could soon be demolished in Accomack County. Now, a heritage association is making every effort to save it. Members of the United States Life-Saving Service Heritage Association tell us the historic Wallops Island Lifeboat Station will soon be up for auction. Recently Wallops officials ordered the station to be removed from the site. Members tell us they’re hoping to find somebody who will preserve the station and have it restored.

“It’s so important to us as state parks to preserve our cultural resources and one of them happens to be a life saving station so I totally understand the importance of wanting to save the wallops life boat station,” said member Laura Scharle.

Wallops officials add that if anyone is interested in buying the station, you’re asked to contact the NASA – Wallops Flight Facility at 757-824-1194.
