East Millsboro educator wins ‘Teacher Who Makes A Difference’ award

MILLSBORO, Del. – On Monday, 47 ABC got the chance to honor a bright star in the Sussex County community as part of our Teacher Who Makes A Difference award.

March’s winner is Jason Orlen, a fifth grade teacher at East Millsboro Elementary School.

He’s been teaching there for 14 years now, but on Monday, we had a chance to do something he’s never experienced before, Orlen got a big surprise from 47 ABC for being a teacher in our area that is having a major positive impact on our youth.

“I teach basically because I get to be a part of the kid’s lives later on in life. I have kids that come back to me when they’re 17, 18-years-old and they talk about the impact I’ve had on their life and I think that’s pretty awesome so just having the impact on the kids lives both academically and personally socially,” explains Orlen.

If you know of a teacher like Orlen who deserves to be recognized for their hard work and dedication to teaching our youth, you can nominate them on our website.
