WiHi grinds out win over Harford Tech, captures regional championship

SALISBURY, MD- After a four year hiatus, long-time WiHi head coach Butch Waller is headed to the University of Maryland once again. The Tribe will make their 26th appearance at state semifinals after a 67-60 win over Harford Tech in the 2A East regional title game.

WiHi led 16-12 after one quarter, but went on an 8-0 run sparked by Dorian Stevens (13 points) and Jaden Baker (16 points).  The Tribe would take a 36-25 into the locker room.

In the second half, Harford Tech would cut into the Indians’ lead. Led by Jalen Dangerfield, (game-high 24 points) the Cobras outscored WiHi 20-12 in the third quarter to trail by just three points headed into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth, despite 9 points in the frame by Dangerfield, WiHi would capitalize on defensive lapses by Harford Tech, and put together another run to push their lead back up to double digits.

2019 will mark the 26th state semifinal for WiHi, 2nd most in Maryland state history. The Tribe will play Oakdale on Friday, March 15th at 9pm at the Xfinity Center on the campus of the University of Maryland, College Park.
