New program aims to help low-income families in Sussex County

SUSSEX Co., Del. – Staying in Sussex County, a local agency is working hard to bridge a housing gap that they say exists for low income individuals and families in the area.

Sussex Community Crisis Housing incorporated is launching a new program to address the issue.

As part of the program, the agency is looking to recruit and retain landlords that are willing to rent to low-income residents that may have subsidies in the form of housing vouchers.

We’re told there are a lot of benefits when it comes to renting to someone who has housing vouchers.

One of those benefits is that the landlord is guaranteed rent payments from the government each month.

We’re told landlords who participate in this program have a chance to make a real difference in their community.

Ryan Leonardo, a Housing Locator said, “There’s just not enough apartments. It’s not like the big city where there’s apartments on every corner. Sussex county is very unique in that way. They would be literally taking people off of the streets and out of the woods and putting a roof over their head.”

If you are a landlord who is interested in this program, you are asked to call 302-229-4682, or pay a visit to the Sussex Community Crisis Housing’s website: http://www.scchsinc.org/
