Lt. Governor Boyd Rutherford focused on ECI

Annapolis, Md. – It may not be a complete overhaul but in Maryland lawmakers are still taking steps to change how they conduct business at the Eastern Correctional Institution and other prisons across the state.

A bill in the Senate that has received bi-partisan support is moving forward. If passed Senate Bill 272 would give correctional staff the discretion to select between a polygraph or an extensive background check before moving forward with a prospective hire.

Lieutenant Governor Boyd Rutherford who was on the shore Thursday says he was happy to hear that the bill was recommitted to the Senate Finance Committee this week

The house of delegates has also had hearings on a similar bill, House Bill 12.

The Lieutenant Governor says that state leaders will continue to find new ways to incentivize a career in law enforcement.
