UPDATE: DSP investigating single vehicle fatal crash in Millsboro

MILLSBORO, Del. – Delaware State Police say they are investigating a single vehicle crash that turned fatal Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, shortly after 3:30 p.m., a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling eastbound on Lowes Crossing Road, just east of Pear Tree Road, when it veered off of the roadway and hit a large tree.

The driver, identified as 80-year-old Joann Smith of Millsboro, was properly restrained at the time of the crash. Smith was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury where she was later pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation.
