Biden disappoints energized Delaware Democrats
DOVER, Del. – On Saturday, hundreds of Delawareans and dozens of news networks converged at Dover Downs to hear from the former Vice President of the United States. The keynote speaker at a grassroots fundraiser, Joe Biden, stood center stage and once again failed to deliver the news that many were waiting for.
Former Vice President Joe Biden toed the line on Saturday night. In his speech Biden said, “I have the most progressive record of anybody running or who would be anybody who would run.”
For now, however, the rumor mill of whether or not Joe Biden will run in the 2020 Presidential Election is alive and well. For Delmarva, it means that an opportunity to make a huge splash has passed.
Bill Hrin from Lewes said, “It was exciting. I had wished Joe had committed to running, but I think it’s a matter of time before he gets in.”
When asked if he was disappointed, Richard Wilkins from Greenwood said, “I am. I’ve known the Vice President since his first term as a Senator and I was just a high school student then, but he epitomizes the Delaware way and we really hope that he’ll get into this race.”
For Delaware Democrats, it was still a night to remember.
Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester (D) said, “This is our moment. This is our moment.”
Senator Chris Coons (D) said, “Anybody got some hope tonight in their heart? Anybody believe in the future of our country? Anybody optimistic about what we’re going to get done together in 2020?”
The First State Democratic Dinner delivered the speeches, or at least buzzwords, we all expected.
Biden said, “Everybody knows who he is. We got to be clear who we are. Who we are.”
Even if the one person everyone really wanted to hear from, Joe Biden, only taught everyone a valuable lesson, Biden said, “There’s no other country in the world that comes close to our capacity nine. It’s time to get up get off our backs, remember who we are, this is the United States of America. There’s nothing beyond our capacity.”
