Wor-Wic offering dual enrollment with UMD for nursing students

SALISBURY, Md. – Students on the Eastern Shore hoping to get a bachelor’s degree in nursing will now have more opportunities to do so at Wor-Wic Community College.

Wor-Wic now has an agreement that allows students to transfer seamlessly and have dual enrollment into the University of Maryland’s nursing program once they graduate from Wor-Wic.

It’s a move that will allow nursing students to stay local and continue to work while they work towards a higher degree since this program is actually online.

“A lot of the hospitals are working on increasing the number of baccalaureate prepared nursing employees. They want to have their nurses have a bachelor’s and so by having this transfer agreement we’re able to get more students, more graduates, more RNs into that pipeline to the baccalaureate programs,” explains VP of Academic Affairs, Dr. Kristin Mallory.

We’re told the Eastern Shore continues to have a nursing shortage, but with programs like this and the one already in place at Salisbury University, it;s starting to make a difference.
