Lake Forest wins Henlopen South thriller over rival Milford
FELTON, Del.- A rivalry matchup is always going to be exciting. But when the top spot in the Henlopen South is on the line, it makes it just a little more interesting.
Lake Forest and Milford would go down to the final two seconds with a Nakeim Scott steal sealing a Spartans win, 60-59.
Coach Michael Starkey’s team would jump out to an early 8-0 lead, but Lamarr Shorts and the Bucs would bounce back to tie things up before half.
In the second half, a third quarter explosion from Jaysem Vasquez, scoring 13 of his game-high 25 points in less than seven minutes, would give Lake a lead as big as eight.
In the fourth quarter, Milford would slowly get themselves back into the game, tying things up at 58 with less than a minute to go.
Lake Forest’s Jene Sample, who wins the “47ABC Grit and Hustle Award” (we just made that up for his performance on Thursday), grabbed an offensive rebound and finished what would be the go-ahead basket.
The win puts Lake in the drivers seat of the South; with a win on February 12th against Woodbridge, they’re bringing home the title.
