UPDATE: Suspect arrested in Federalsburg homicide investigation

Federalsburg Police have arrested 49-year-old Stanley E. Ricketts, Jr. in connection with the murder of 42-year-old Tameko Barham.

According to officials, Ricketts Jr. turned himself in at around 2:30 PM Monday.

Maryland State Police have identified a suspect involved in the death of a 42-year-old woman in Federalsburg.

Investigators say they have obtained a warrant charging 49-year-old Stanley E. Ricketts, Jr. with first degree murder. On Friday, officers from the Federalsburg Police Department responded to the victim’s address after being called by a relative of the 42-year-old woman.

According to reports, family members found Tameko Barham’s body in a shed on the property after learning she had not gone to work the day before.

Police reportedly started an immediate search for suspects with a K-9 team from the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office and a Natural Resources Police helicopter. Deputies from the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office helped, as did troopers from the Easton Barrack.

No suspects were found during that search.

Investigators say they observed obvious trauma to the Barham’s body, which has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

The search for the suspect is continuing.

Police throughout the area have been notified and are assisting with the search. Anyone with information about the suspect’s location is urged to call 911 immediately.

FEDERALSBURG, Md. -Federalsburg Police, Maryland State Police, and the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a homicide that happened Friday evening.

Federalsburg Police Chief Mike McDermott has confirmed for 47 ABC that a woman was killed at 406 Brown Road. Chief McDermott says that the call came in around 3:35 PM.

We’re told the victim, who was renting the home at the time, and the suspect were acquaintances. Police say the suspect fled the scene, but was identified by an eye witness, who is a relative of the victim.

Officers tell us the suspect has a prior criminal history, and they are using that during this investigation.

Investigators say specific information about the suspect and victim will be withheld until more information and evidence are gathered at the scene.

There does not appear to be a threat to the public, according to investigating officers.

“We do not believe that the public is at threat. The public at large is, this was a definitely a targeted situation where the individual was known by the offender. Because of that this was not a random act,” said Chief McDermott.

Three separate locations on the property are being processed, and investigators expect the process to continue into Saturday morning.
