Milford sails past Woodbridge, split season series
GREENWOOD, Del.- With a team high 13 from Nick Sivels and 12 points from Jaxon Turner and Dion Warner, the Milford Bucs defeated Woodbridge 70-59. With the win Milford improves to 12-3 on the year while the loss drops the Blue Raiders to 9-4.
From the opening tip off the Bucs had the lead as Jaxon Turner went on a 5-0 run in the first 19 seconds of the game. But Troy Haynes would keep the ‘Bridge in this one scoring 5 of his own with 8 from Jason Kane to cut the first quarter Milford lead to three, 18-15. The second half would be much of the same story, back and forth as Haynes would hit his fourth 3 to beat the halftime buzzer, one point game 34-33. Haynes would lead all scorers at the break with 14 points for the Raiders. Nick Sivels led the Bucs with 10.
Start of the second half and the two teams still going blow for blow. Ending the third quarter unable to get a shot to fall before the buzzer, Milford would carry a 2 point lead into the fourth. Giving up a 10 point lead midway through the fourth, Woodbridge would begin to climb back behind 7 from both Troy Haynes and Jason Kane. With two minutes to go the Blue Raiders would cut the deficit to just four but late turnovers would end any hopes of a comeback. Milford takes it over Woodbridge 70-59.
Milford will look to continue their hot streak when they host Smyrna next Tuesday. The Blue Raiders will try and get back into the win column tomorrow when they host Mount Pleasant.
