Delaware passes Equal Rights Amendment
DOVER, Del. – One piece of legislation in Delaware that’s been nearly a century in the making is officially complete. The Equal Rights Amendment officially passed both the House and the Senate late Wednesday night.
It’s legislation that will actually change the language in Delaware’s Constitution. The line “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged on account of sex.” is now the law of the land.
“I think it’s another sense of security if you will and a lot of people will say well we already had that we had certain rights, but those things were rights that were granted through separate laws and not actually in the Constitution,” explains Rep. Ruth Briggs King.
