Salisbury Mayor’s office to establish Interfaith Alliance

SALISBURY, Md. –  The Mayor’s office announced to 47 ABC that they will start the Mayor’s Interfaith Alliance with local religious organizations.

The alliance has been in the works for a few years now, but is finally coming to fruition in response to the Tree of Life Synagogue massacre in Pittsburgh.

Mayor Jake Day tells 47 ABC he believes getting these organizations involved will hopefully prevent events like what happened in Pittsburgh from ever happening here.

“Our faith communities are prepared to come together on a more frequent basis, and not just in the wake of tragedy, but to defend against these sort of things in the future by being closer together,” Mayor Day said.

In addition to bringing the community together, the Mayor hopes the alliance will address issues like poverty in Salisbury, homelessness and hunger, as well as youth-related issues like violence.
