Motivational speaker offers advice for local athletes, families on collegiate searches
SALISBURY, Md. – It’s that time of year for high school athletes, the letters from colleges are flowing in, and for many the days are getting short before making the decision on where to continue their athletic and academic careers.
At Parkside High Wednesday night, one parent who has been through the process held his own seminar for local parents who are helping their kids get through this time.
Rick Wire says kids and parents need to be realistic about their goals and ability, and where they hope to play at the next level.
Many kids aspire to play at the D-I level, but for many, aiming for D-III or NAIA is the better fit.
He also has some other tips for guiding your college-bound athlete.
“Create a blueprint that’s going to fit for your son or daughter, be honest and realistic about your kid’s talent and ability, choose the right level, visit schools, and work hard in the classroom.”
Rick’s son Coy played for the Buffalo Bills and Atlanta Falcons in the NFL for nine seasons. If you want more information on Rick’s seminar and his tips for local athletes and their families, you can visit their website here.
