Major Public Works project temporarily halted
Construction plans for the expensive upgrade need revision

Salisbury, MD – Residents and commuters living and driving near the Morris Mill Dam may have to wait a bit longer before the nearly $2 million dollar rehabilitation project to correct the high hazard dam can be completed after Wicomico County officials have decided to place the upgrade on a temporary hold.
According to the report unexpected soil conditions at the work site are necessitating the need for revised construction plans that will address the issue. Those plans then must be approved by the Maryland Department of Environment’s Office of Dam Safety before construction can resume. Officials tell 47 ABC that because Morris Mill Dam is a high hazard dam safety is first and foremost and so every precaution is being taken to ensure the safety of the community during the construction.
Construction began on the dam back in September and at that time officials placed a 9-12 month timeline on the project.
The Wicomico County Department of Public Works is expecting the work to resume at the end of December and added that they appreciate the public’s patience with this project as they take all the necessary steps to ensure the updated dam is safe and stable.
