Wicomico Middle students get a big welcome back to school

SALISBURY, Md. – Middle Schoolers in Wicomico County had quite the welcoming committee to greet them as they walked into school.

In an effort to kick off the new school year and create a culture of caring, a group of city officials, our very own 47 ABC crew and other community members gave these students quite the surprise.

At first the students were a little shy, but it didn’t take long until the smiles and laughter started rolling in.

Wicomico Middle’s new principal, Tara Obarsky, says this is only the beginning.

“We invited various community members to come and just high five students welcome them back words of encouragement a welcoming committee and that’s exactly what we had here this morning and making those connections between community and school is so important and helping students thrive in all areas socially emotionally academically.”

Principal Obarsky says the event Wednesday morning isn’t just a one and done. She’s hoping to continue this momentum throughout the school year and continue to make these deeper connections between the community and the school.
