Walk held to highlight addiction, recovery centers

September is National Recovery Month, and to mark the occasion two organizations got together Thursday night for an annual recovery walk.

Organizers say that the goal of this Boardwalk event is to highlight the groups that are here in our area, that can help anyone struggling with addiction.

Thresholds Inc. and Attack Addiction were the ones behind the recovery walk, which is free, and is designed only to raise awareness and offer a safe place for people to connect.

“Everyone here can share their experience, strength and hope. And it lets other people know that, yes, this is possible. I can deal with my problem,” said Susan Harris, the treatment services director for Thresholds Inc.

Attack Addiction tells 47ABC that they are beginning a new bereavement group that will meet monthly to support those who have lost loved ones to addiction.

That group will be led by a qualified counselor and will hold its first meeting on October 17th.
