Hiker/biker trail coming to Route 413 corridor in Crisfield

Officials say that a hiker/biker trail is coming to the Route 413 corridor in Crisfield.
According to Somerset County Recreation and Parks, the design phase of a new hiker/biker trail is almost finished and is awaiting final review. The funding is in place through two grants from the State of Maryland State Highway Administration/ Maryland Department of Transportation.
The approximate cost of the project is $5 million. Officials say that construction and bid announcements are not yet set and details on those items will be more clear in the coming month.
The trail is a 10' wide asphalt path from Davis Lane in Marion to Hinman Lane in Crisfield. It is about five miles long and will run parallel to Route 413. There are reportedly planned parking/rest areas at both ends.
Officials say that they are in phase one of the project. The second phase will run from Marion to Recreational Facility in Westover.
The aims of the project are that it is a public health initiative to encourage activity for Somerset residents, a tourism effort to complement other venues for recreational tourism in Somerset and a beautification project for the 413 corridor.
A time line for completion has not yet been created.
