2017 Holiday events around Delmarva

The holiday season is upon us! With so many things to plan for, 47ABC has a list of events to help you celebrate the holiday season.

ON-GOING:

OCEAN CITY, Md. – The 25th Anniversary of the Ocean City's Winterfest of Lights begins on Thursday, November 16 at Northside Park's Winterfest Village at 127th Street and the bay. This event is free and open to the public. The ceremony features Ocean City Elementary School's "OC Stars" performing holiday songs and dance. In addition, Mayor Rick Meehan will "flip the switch" to light the Christmas tree and officially open the Winterfest of Lights.  Even Santa will make a surprise appearance for the opening ceremony, which will feature free rides on the Winterfest Express train for the remainder of the evening.

The Winterfest of Light runs from November 16 through December 31. The hours are Sunday through Thursday at 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM and Friday and Saturday at 5:30 PM to 10:30 PM. This mile-long journey is accompanied by music that can be enjoyed by children of all ages. Sing along while enjoying such displays as the Twelve Days of Christmas, Santa's Workshop, The Wizard of Oz and an amazing, twinkling Christmas tree. After your ride, visit the Winterfest Pavilion. You can warm up with a hot chocolate while you browse the gift shop. Santa will be available for photos every night through December 23. Admission is $5.00 for those 12 years and older, and FREE for those 11 years and younger.

DELAWARE:

BETHANY BEACH, Del. – Saturday, December 2 – The Town of Bethany Beach will host their "Bethany Beach Holiday Happenings" event from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. There will be face painting, photos with Santa, hot cocoa, horse-drawn wagon rides, and more. The tree lighting is scheduled for 5:00 PM at the bandstand. All are encouraged to participate and remember to bring your hats, gloves, and scarves to keep warm.

DEWEY BEACH, Del. – Saturday, November 25 – The Dewey Beach Tree Lighting event will begin at 6:30 PM at Fifer's Orchards Market. All are invited to come out and enjoy the holiday festivities. Parking on any street in Dewey Beach will be free.

DOVER, Del. – Thursday, November 30 – The City of Dover will hold their "Capital Holiday Celebration" from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, in Lockerman Way Plaza, in Downtown Dover. The event will feature caroling, a tree lighting, Santa's house, carriage rides, food, and more. All are invited to come out for a joyous celebration. You can even bring a letter to drop in Santa's mailbox.

DOVER, Del.- Saturday, December 2 –Delaware's Capital will host their "Home For The Holidays Marketplace and First Time Ever Nighttime Christmas Parade" from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The Christmas parade begins promptly at 6:30 PM along Martin Luther King Boulevard. There will be lots to see and do. The public is invited to attend the holiday events.

FRANKFORD, Del. – Saturday, November 25 – The Town of Frankford will host their Annual "Christmas at the Park" tree and park lighting ceremony at the Frankford Town Park. You are invited to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus in the Santa house and enjoy cookies and hot cocoa, while you stroll through the park enjoying the lights and sounds of the holiday season. This event is free to the public.

GEORGETOWN, Del. – Thursday, December 7 – The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce will host the 2017 Georgetown Christmas Parade will be held for 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. This year's theme is "Parade of Lights." The Grand Marshals of the parade will be the 2017 Senior League Softball World Series Champions! 

HARRINGTON, Del. – Tuesday, November 28 –The Harrington's Annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Caroling will begin at 6:00 PM at the Chief Norman Barlow Pavillion. There will be hot chocolate and cookies attendees.

HARRINGTON, Del. – Friday, December 1 – The 2017 Harrington Christmas Parade will be held at 7:00 PM. "Elf on a Shelf" is this year's theme. The public is invited to share in the holiday festivities.

LEWES, Del. – Saturday, December 2 – The City of Lewes will host their 86th Annual Lewes Christmas Parade at 5:00 PM. The parade route begins at on Savannah Road and will end on Second Street. After the parade, the tree lighting will take place in Zwaanendael Park after the last parade entry passes by the judge's stand. All are welcome to come and enjoy the festivities.

MILTON, Del. – Saturday, November 25 – The Town of Milton will host their annual park and tree lighting event. The celebration begins at 6:00 PM and the lighting starts at 6:30 PM. There will be cookies provided by the Milton Community Foundation, hot chocolate provided by the Milton Lions Club, and music by the Water's Edge Church. All are invited to participate in the festive celebration on what is usually a frosty night to kick of the holidays.

MILTON, Del. – Wednesday, December 6 – The Milton Fire Department will host the 2017 Milton Christmas Parade beginning at 7:30 PM. Santa will be present at the parade with the help of the Milton Fire Department. There isn't a rain date for the event. All are invited to come out and celebrate the holiday.

OCEAN VIEW, Del. – November 4 through December 28 – The Salted Rim hosts a "Polar Express" themed buffet breakfast or dinner that all are sure to enjoy. Guest come in their pajamas and watch the train themed Holiday movie, while getting the real-life experience on a train. The elves will be serving hot chocolate and cookies to the children and there will be a visit from Santa himself! Children under 1 attend free, Admission is $11.99 for children ages 1-7, $16.99 for children ages 8-12, and $25.99 for adults.

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – Tuesday, December 5 – The Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company is sponsoring the 2017 "Hometown Christmas Parade" which begins at 6:30 PM. All are invited to attend.

SELBYVILLE, Del. – Friday, December 1- The Town of Selbyville will host their 57th Annual Selbyville Christmas Parade from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The parade route will run along Church Street. The town is inviting the public to celebrate the holiday season with an evening of food, fun and floats! Watch the parade participants make their way through downtown Selbyville to celebrate the holiday season.

MARYLAND:

BERLIN, Md. – Thursday, December 7- The Town of Berlin will host their 2017 Christmas Parade. The Parade route will begin at the Berlin Welcome Center and Main Street and travel north through town. The event will start at 7:00 PM. All streets along the parade route will be closed to traffic beginning at 5:30 PM (railroad at North Main Street down to Worcester Preparatory School) . The public is invited to attend.

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – Saturday, December 2 – The 69th Annual Cambridge Dorchester County Parade will be held at 5:00 PM, in Cambridge. This year's theme is "Peace On Earth." All are invited to come out and enjoy the holiday event.

CRISFIELD, Md. – Friday, December 1 – The Crisfield Christmas Parade is scheduled for 6:30 PM along Main Street, in Crisfield. Following the parade, the public is invited to stop by Santa's House next to City Hall for free photos with Santa.

DELMAR, Md. – Saturday, December 16 – The Town of Delmar will host their 2017 Christmas Parade at 2:00 PM. The public is invited to enjoy the holiday event. There is no rain date for this parade.

EASTON, Md. – Saturday, December 2 – The Easton Holiday Parade is scheduled for 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The parade will take place along the streets of Easton's historic business district. All are invited to enjoy the holiday festivities.

POCOMOKE CITY, Md. – Monday, November 27 – The Pocomoke City Christmas Parade Association will transform Pocomoke City into a "Winter Wonderland" for the city's Christmas Parade. The parade begins at 7:00 PM sharp at 14th Street, going north on Market Street. Marching units, fire departments, equestrian units, and of course Santa Claus will round out the two-hour event ending at the Pocomoke River Bridge.  Even 47ABC will at the first Christmas Parade of the season. All are invited to attend.

In the event of inclement weather, the parade will be postponed until Tuesday, November 28, at 7:00 PM.

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Saturday, December 2 – The Princess Anne Christmas Parade will begin at 11:00 AM traveling through town on Somerset Avenue for all to enjoy. The public is invited to attend.

SALISBURY, Md. – SALISBURY, Md. – Sunday, December 3 – The Salisbury Jaycees will host the 71st Annual Salisbury Christmas Parade at 2:00 PM.  This year's theme is "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree." All are invited to come out and enjoy the festivities. The route will begin at Civic Avenue and Mt. Hermon Road, then turning onto East Main Street before ending at Wicomico Middle School. The rain date for the Salisbury Parade is December 10.

SNOW HILL, Md. – Thursday, November 30 – The Town of Snow Hill's Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is set for 5:30 PM, in Byrd Park. All are invited to attend the ceremony that will include signing, readings, and a visit from Santa.

SNOW HILL, Md. – Monday, December 4 -The Town of Snow Hill will host their Christmas Parade at 7:00 PM, in Downtown Snow Hill. The parade route begins near Snow Hill High School and goes to the Courthouse on Market Street. In the event of inclement weather, the date will be moved to December 6.

VIRGINIA:

CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. – Saturday, December 2 – The evening begins at 6:00 PM with 'The Salt Marsh Ramblers" performing in Robert N. Reed Downtown Park until 7:00 PM. At 6:30 PM, there will be an invocation and Town Lighting in front of the Chincoteague Island Library. The annual Chincoteague Old-Fashioned Christmas Parade will begin at 7:00 PM, when the fire whistle blows. All are invited to fill the sidewalks on Main Street, from Maddox Boulevard to the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company Fire House, to see enchanting floats, bands, marching units, decorated boats, fire companies from across the Eastern Shore, equestrian teams, classic cars, and more. Keep an eye out for Santa too!

DELAWARE: 

GEORGETOWN, Del. – The Town of Georgetown will host a New Year's Eve celebration from 9:00 PM to 12:30 AM. There will be food vendors, music by Glass Onion and a  ball will be raised. All are invited to attend the celebration.

DEWEY BEACH, Del. – The "Dewey Beach Ball Drop" held at New Orleans Street and Route One has been cancelled due to the frigid temperatures and wind chill expected on New Years Eve.

LEWES, Del. – The 2018 New Year's Eve Anchor Drop will begin at 11:30 PM through 12:30 AM at the Lightship Overfalls on the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal, in Lewes. The event is free to the public. for more information, click here.

MARYLAND:

OCEAN CITY, Md. –  If you are ringing in the New Year in Ocean City, there will be a firework display as part of the Winterfest celebration. The event will be held from 7:00 Pm to Midnight at Northside Park. The fireworks display is set for Midnight.

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. –  The Town of Princess Anne will host their New Year's Eve Midnight Muskrat Dive from 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM on Main Street in Princess Anne. A taxidermied muskrat ziplines down Somerset Avenue to ring in the new year. There will be food, giveaways, and entertainment by  DJ Rondell Redding and live band, "UPRIZING." The event is free to those wishing to ring in the new year in  Historic Downtown Princess Anne.

SALISBURY, Md. –  The New Year's Eve ball Drop will be held in Downtown Salisbury, at the intersection  of Main Street and N. Division Street. The event begins at 8:00 PM through just after Midnight, and it will feature a jumbo-tron countdown screen and a ball drop at Midnight. Food will be available from local food truck. All are invited to ring in the new year in downtown Salisbury.

VIRGINIA

CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. – Christmas by the Sea will host Chincoteague's New Year's Eve Horseshoe Drop and Promenade in the Robert Reed Downtown Waterfront around 10:30 PM. There will be prizes for costumes. All are invited to ring in the new year at this festive celebration.

CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. – A New Year's Eve buffet with live entertainment will be held at the American Legion Chincoteague Post 159, on Main Street, from 7:00 PM to 1:00 AM. Entertainment will be provided by Virginia Creek Band. Tickets are $25 per person. All are invited to attend.

CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. – The Chincoteague Island Arts Organization will host a New Year's Eve event with live entertainment by Deanna Bogart at the Island Theatre, on Main Street. Deanna Bogart is an award winning pianist and saxophonist.The show begins at 8:30 PM and tickets are $30. Tickets can be purchased at Sundial Books, on Main Street, or online
