UPDATE: Wicomico Co. teacher facing drug charges, out on bond
A woman is facing multiple charges including possession of heroin with the intent to distribute within a school zone, after deputies say she was arrested in connection to an ongoing investigation of illegal drug sales, in Wicomico County.
The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office says on Tuesday, deputies completed an four-week investigation into the distribution of controlled dangerous substances by a Wicomico County teacher. The investigation was reportedly initiated by information from a recovering addict. Authorities report that investigators identified 51-year-old Monica Snee, of Salisbury, as the target of the investigation into the distribution of both heroin and prescription medications, in October.
According to the report, Snee, a Parkside High School Special Education teacher, was involved in the illict sales at several Wicomico County locations including the grounds of Parkside High School. She had been employed by the school since 2000. On Tuesday, just before 3:00 PM, deputies pulled over Snee's vehicle as she drove off of school grounds, in the area of South Schumaker Drive, in Salisbury. Authorities apparently had a search and seizure warrant which led to law enforcement recovering 173 capsules of heroin, hundreds of oxycodone pills, a small amount of suboxone strips, and almost $3,000.00 in cash along with a supply of empty plastic baggies. Law enforcement reports that Snee did not have a have a prescription of either the oxycodone or the suboxone, and they were not in a proper prescription container.
The amount of drugs apparently indicated the intent to distribute. Snee reportedly distributed drugs in Wicomico and Worcester County. It is unclear if any drugs were given to students or faculty of the school.
Snee was arrested and charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school zone, possession of oxycodone, possession of oxycodone with the intent to distribute, possession of oxycodone with the intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school zone, possession of suboxone with the intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school zone.
Snee was held at the Wicomico County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond. She is currently out on bond.
In a press conference, on Wednesday, Sheriff Mike Lewis referred to the incident as the "worst act of betrayal." Authorities anticipate more arrests in connection to the investigation.
