Delaware launches new website for park guides

This wonderful weather is getting us excited for outdoor adventures.

The state of Delaware just launched a free website to help people find and navigate public outdoor spaces.

The site is called Play Outside and offers information and maps of just about 500 parks and recreational facilities.

Users can search parks based on amenities such as sports facilities, playgrounds, parking lots, trails and bathrooms.

47 ABC spoke to Bob Ehemann, the Outdoor Recreation Planner for DN-REC,  and he explains that this website can be a useful tool for communities which might be under-served in terms of recreational options.

He also added that he hopes it will encourage people to spend more time outside.

“People do use their mobile devices a lot more frequently and they're a lot more prevalent in today's society to navigate, to discover things and to investigate and to have this is something that will be with them,” Ehemann said.

“So it makes it a lot easier instead of taking a map and remembering to bring it and knowing where you are on the map.”

Ehemann said that the website has a built in comments section — and DN-REC welcomes the feedback.
