Del. governor meets with President Trump at nat’l meeting

President Donald Trump has met with a number of governors at the National Governors Association Winter Meeting.

Delaware Governor John Carney was one of the governors who met the commander-in-chief Monday.

According to Governor Carney, the purpose of the meeting was to get a better understanding of Trump's priorities.

47ABC spoke to Carney on the phone after the meeting. He tells us a number of topics were raised including immigration and healthcare; however, he says it's what was not discussed that concerns him.

Carney tells 47ABC possible cuts to assistance programs like Medicaid were not addressed when the issue of healthcare was raised.

The former U.S. Representative for Delaware says he is used to focusing on finding a balance in the fiscal budget for the country; however, his focus has shifted since taking office as Governor especially knowing how changes in federal spending could trickle down to the state level.

"Knowing the state of the federal budget, hearing that the President wants to spend significantly more money in one area, I worry about the cuts that will occur about the cuts in the other areas," says Carney.

While in Washington D.C. on Monday, Governor Carney was also scheduled to attend a Cybersecurity discussion with U.S. senators.
