yesterday in philadelphia. yeah emily, in all honesty a very disappointing finish for the salisbury football team after coming into the final two weeks 7-1, the gulls span out in their final two games. but they had their shot at the postseason yesterday as they took the the famed franklin field in philadelphia to take on carnegie mellon university in the ecac legacy bowl. the gulls taking on carnegie mellon for the first time in program history. 7-7 after one..early in the second the gulls take their first lead..aarron moore taking the option pitch around the outside for the 24-yard touchdown. and they would just run away with it from there..second half gulls getting loose, brandon lewis gonna do the honors and go 39-yards for the score..and you think he was done? not at all..lewis would get it again and go 14-yards for the score..he finished with 127 yards and three touchdowns in this one. gulls would wrap things up on the defensive side of the ball..andre boone with his third interception of the season as the gulls beat up the tartans 52-20 to put a good cap on their 2016 season. and from salisbury a key part of their rival wesley wolverines football team…senior running back jamar baynard went for 265 yards and 3 scores in wesley’s 38-17 opening round win over stevenson on saturday..he’s your njac offensive player of the week. baynard’s big game pushed wesley to 12-1 in ncaa playoff opening round games..and baynard actually broke a program record with his 46th rushing touchdowin the third quarter.. baynard and the dub travel to ohio next saturday where they will meet up with powerhouse john carroll hoping to pull the upset. and from the frigid temps outside..glad we’re getting to take things inside..today was media day for the 2016 governor’s challenge at the wicomico youth and civic center. over 20 teams represented from the shore in anticipation for this year’s challenge..set to be held december 27-30 right here in salisbury. after the best tournament yet last december..we’re anticipating 2016 to be even bigger and better for the challenge. im excited, i hope everyone is as excited as we are. its 100 teams this year, actually 101 so we went up by one this year..but i think you’ll see some more growth from us in the next couple of years to become the biggest in the country. that’s it for sports – more news and weather straight ahead. stay with us. catch more of the action on our sports page at 47abc.com
