basically at the midway point of the college football season, and teams in the area remain in the national spotlight. yeah at this point in the season, you’ve likely been tested at least a few times in your schedule, so to be ranked is pretty big. two different polls and things are looking good for the seagulls. the team heads into the weekend ranked number 22 in the american football coaches association the d3football.com in poll. the seagulls were handed their first loss of the season last weekend, falling to rowan university 34-30. s-u is currently 4-1 as it hits the road to face william paterson university on saturday. to bowling. the delaware state university hornets are the reigning mid-eastern athletic conference champions… and this year, they’ve got plenty of talent returning. sophomores chelsea merklinger and elizabeth buckholder were named preseason all-meac first team. the league head coaches voted on players and the league made the announcement today. dsu is the only school in the conference with multiple preseason honorees. navy football is ranked 25th in the latest associated press poll, and was named the football writers association national team of the week. the honors come after the mids upset #6 houston on saturday, 46-40. navy has an unexpect bye week this week, as its matchup against east carolina has been postponed due to flooding in the greenville area. they return to action at home on october 22 against memphis. we’ve still got plenty to come tonight. this evening we’ll have highlights from laurel vs. woodbridge field hockey, cambridge south dorchester vs colonel richardson girls soccer, caesar rodney vs. dover boys soccer, and more. be sure to catch the highlights and final scores tonight at 11. that’s it for sports – more news and weather straight ahead. stay with us. catch more of the action on our sports page
