Worcester Co. announces fall after school programs and sports
The Worcester County Department of Recreation & Parks is getting ready for their after school programs with the start of the new academic year.
After School Cheerleading, open to children in kindergarten through 3rd grade, takes place on Wednesdays, September 7 to November 23 from 4:30 – 5:30 PM. This program will introduce skills and fundamentals to youngsters in a fun and non-competitive manner with time to learn and review all tumbling, cheers and chants that are taught throughout the program. There will be no “team” formed from this class. The deadline to sign up is Friday, September 3.
After School Field Hockey will be open to youth from kindergarten through 8th grade, this program will be held on Thursdays, September 8 through October 13 from 3:30 – 5:30 PM. This after school program will introduce the sport of Field Hockey, teaching participants the basic skills and fundamentals of the game. Children will learn to apply their skills to field hockey activities and modified games. The registration deadline is Friday, September 2.
The cost for each After School program is $30 per child, and $25 for each additional sibling. Please note that each of these programs have a separate registration deadline. An additional $5 fee will be applied to participants who register after the deadline.
Financial Aid for many WCRP programs is available to those who show a demonstrated need.
A Youth Field Hockey Clinic will be held at the Northern Worcester Athletic Complex in Berlin this fall. Open to participants ages kindergarten – 8th grade, this program will run on Tuesdays, September 13 through October 18 from 5:00 – 6:30 PM.
This youth clinic will introduce the sport of Field Hockey, in a non-competitive environment. Participants will learn the basic skills and fundamentals of the sport through station drill and exercises. Children will learn to apply their skills to field hockey activities and modified games. Shin guards and mouth guards are required to participate. All other equipment will be provided.
The cost of the program is $30 per person ($25 for second child). Financial Aid is available to those who show a demonstrated need. The registration deadline is Friday, September 2, 2016. An additional $5 will be applied after the registration deadline.
The Youth Outdoor Soccer League and Youth Instructional Basketball League will kick-off their seasons on Saturday, September 10, 2016. The Soccer League is open to children ages 3 through 8th grade, while Youth Basketball is open to children Kindergarten through grade 5.
The Youth Outdoor Soccer League will be divided into 5 age divisions, Age 3-4, Grades K-1, Grades 2-3, Grades 4-5, Grades 6-8, and all divisions are co-ed. The age 3-4 division will have games Monday evenings and Saturday mornings. The K-1 division will play on Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings. The Grades 2-3 division will meet Monday evenings and Saturday late mornings. The Grades 4-5 division will play on Monday evenings and Saturday early afternoon and the Grades 6-8 division will have games on Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons. Teams from each town will be formed and will travel to the three following locations: John Walter Smith Park in Snow Hill, Newtown Park in Pocomoke, and Northern Worcester Athletic Complex in Berlin. The registration deadline is Thursday, September 8, 2016.
The Youth Instructional Basketball League will consist of 3 co-ed divisions: Grades K-1, Grades 2-3, and Grades 4-5. The league will take place every Saturday morning, September 10 – November 12 at the Recreation Center in Snow Hill. The registration deadline is Wednesday, September 7, 2016.
The cost for each program is $30 per player ($25 for each additional child) and financial aid is available for those who have demonstrated need. Proof of eligibility is required. An additional $5 will be applied to those who register after the deadline.
