Cape Henlopen State Park hosting open house for campground renovations

A local state park is unveiling some new amenities, ahead of the summer season, at their open house event.

DNREC’s Division of Parks & Recreation says on Monday, March 21, they will be hosting a public open house from 4:30 until 7:00 PM at the park’s Officer’s Club/Youth Camp on Cape Henlopen Drive in Lewes. In 2015, two state-of-the-art bathhouse facilities were added to the property. Currently, there are six new camping cabins are under construction.

All the new buildings, combined with the existing structures, now make up a cabin village. The new cabins are expected to be wrapped up and ready to rent in May.

Officials will also be discussing the next phase of renovations, which will start after the park closes in September. Those plans include reducing asphalt, installing landscaping, adding back-in, pull-through and pop-up RV sites, and electric service. There will also apparently be an improvement in vehicular circulation and paths linking the bathhouses within the campground, along with the construction of a camp store with laundry and utility sinks. Those improvements are expected to be finished by May 2017.

Visitors at the open house will be able view the proposed renovation plans, and give comments to DNREC program staff. For more information on the open house, contact Cindy Todd, Division of Parks & Recreation, 302-739-9210 or Cindy.Todd@state.de.us.
