washington college is now on day two of a campus lock-down. this — after parents of a student identified as sophomore jacob marberger — contacted the school yesterday morning and told them their son had returned to their pennsylvania home and may have retrieved a firearm. yesterday — students living on campus were urged to seek shelter in place. while those who lived off campus — were told to stay away. today — students with access to transportation were urged to leave campus and go home. this decision was apparently made in light of new information on the ongoing search for marberger. 47 a-b-c’s lili zheng joins us live in chestertown tonight. lili — what else do we know? school officials say they cannot release the specifics of what new information police have gathered — but what we do know is that margerberger’s history at this school played a role in that decision at nine this morning. at a press conference earlier today — the school says marberger returned to campus last week after facing a temporary suspension. this is the disciplinary action he faced — after an investigation revealed he had an antique handgun on campus back on october 9th. according to the washington college’s public safety director — they were not made aware of this until an anonymous tip on the 23rd led them to investigate. now — we’re told there was no evidence at first — so the case was open but inactive. it was not until the 27th — when officials reportedly received more credible information that led them to find that handgun at on off campus residence on the 29th. they later determined the gun was unloaded. but marberger and others were still reportedly questioned — which ultimately led the school to temporarily suspend him. his parents were told he could not return to campus — until a forensic evaluation was completed. this would test tendencies that would put him or other students at jeopardy. but — he did pass. 14:45:37 and so when we got the information that he in fact returned home in the morning hours of monday and a gun was possibly removed from the house…we took immediate steps to lock the campus until we can get a better understanding of what was going on with him 49 these are all precautionary measures but given the history…we have reason to believe that we needed to take these steps 56 as far as how long the lock down will last — washington college sheila bair says this will be a day to day determination. so — the campus will be closed until further notice. as far as marberger — there is now an arrest warrant out for him. we’ll have more on that — coming up tonight on 47abc. alright thank you, lili. wicomico county public schools — announced today they are suspending multiple field trips
