Defending champion Cape girls get win number 1

The defending DIAA girls lacrosse champion Cape Henlopen Vikings got win number one in the 2015 season, defeating Parkside 20-11 Wednesday afternoon in Champions Stadium on the campus of Cape Henlopen in Lewes.

Cape got off to a fast start. Senior Sarah Tappan scored a game-high eight goals, with Lexi Woodruff adding four. Cape had a 12-1 lead with less than five minutes to go until Parkside began to make their run. A series of goals by Blair Langler, Blair Vilov, and Emily Davis would cut Cape’s lead to 12-6 at the break.

Parkside would come out in the second half much like they ended the first. The Rams would battle to get the score to 17-11, but Davis would be called for an illegal stick. That would be as close as they got as Cape scored 3 of the final four goals to close out the game.

Cape host Glenelg (MD.) on Saturday at 1 p.m. while Parkside looks for their first win, hosting Worcester Prep this Friday.
