Troopers investigate fatal crash near Bethany Beach

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash south of Bethany Beach that killed a Selbyville man on Sunday morning.

According to authorities Scott Bunting, 39, was traveling south on Double Bridges Road around 3:35 a.m. Police say Bunting was traveling at an apparent high speed. When he approached a sharp right curve with a warning and reduced speed sign posted, police say he locked the brakes in an effort to slow but slid off the east side of the road and struck a tree head-on.

Authorities tell 47 ABC that Bunting, who was not properly restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple traumatic injuries.

Double Bridges Road, north of Parker House Road, was closed for approximately three hours and has since been cleared.

DSP’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident.
