Georgetown man charged in Middleford Deli robbery

State troopers have arrested a Georgetown man after a reported robbery of a patron in the Middleford Deli parking lot.

Police say the incident happened just before 11:00 a.m. on Monday, when the 61-year-old victim had just exited the Middleford Deli located at 10056 Middleford Road. As the victim entered his vehicle and closed the door, we’re told Saint Joe J. Petion, 26, approached and opened the door. He reportedly placed a handgun to the victim’s neck before demanding money. Police say the victim turned over an undisclosed amount of cash before the suspect fled the parking lot in a white Oldsmobile Aurora.

About an hour later, authorities say they observed a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s car. With the assistance of Millsboro Police Department, authorities conducted a traffic stop on Delaware Avenue and Petion was turned over to troopers.

Petion was charged with Robbery in the 1st degree and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.  He has been committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $100,000.00 secured bond.

The victim was uninjured during the confrontation.
