Winter Solstice

The winter solstice took place on Sunday, December 21st; it’s the shortest and darkest day of the year.

The sun appears at it’s most southerly position, directly above the Tropic of Capricorn.

Apparently, coldest days of the year typically come after the solstice; this is because the Northern Hemisphere continues to lose more heat than it gains, for several more weeks.
