Laurel Grinds Out Win Over Woodbridge
The Laurel boys basketball team pulled off the first upset of the 2014 season defeating Woodbridge 46-39 in front of their home crowd Wednesday night.

The game started off and stayed defensive, Woodbridge led just 9-3 after the first. At the half, the game was tied 20-20, with Chucky August leading Laurel with 14.]
The third quarter was much of the same, with both teams combining for 6 field goals and 15 points. Still Woodbridge held the 28-27 lead entering the final frame. In the final quarter, Coach Shawn Phillips’ squad would use their length and full-court pressure to continuously turn the Blue Raiders over. The pressure would yield 19 points for Laurel in the final frame as they pulled away. “The guys just gave it all they had,” said Phillips.
August finished with a game 22 points, while Gary Warren scored 10. For Woodbridge, Byrone Lake scored a team high 11, with Randy DuPont added 9.
