Batson’s Dunk Exclamation Mark On WiHi Win Over North Dorchester
Salisbury, MD – His nickname around school is “The greatest of all-time”. Friday night he helped backed that down, for at least one play, with the dunk that brought the entire gym to their feet.
Lionel Batson came up huge (metaphorically and literally) for WiHi Friday night in their season opener against North Dorchester, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds. More importantly, he helped lead his Indians to a 81-27 win. The win improves the Indians to 1-0 on the year, while the loss drops the Eagles to 0-1.
The Indians starting united wasted no time going to work, and quickly built a 29-6 lead after the first. The combination of Nelson Brown with his new back court teammate Torrey Brittingham showed the skill and veteran leadership needed for a championship quality team. DaQuan Johnson would try and shoot his team back into it, and for a moment it looked like he might. The guard connected on three straight 3's to give his team a spark, but WiHis lead was too much.
And that's when Batson would deliver the exclamation mark.
Up big in the third, Batson would come down the left side on a delayed fast break, before rising up for a thundering one handed slam over a defender. The Eagles would call a time out to try and settle down, but the damage was done.
WiHi returns to action next Tuesday when they travel to play at Kent County, while North Dorchester returns to action Tuesday when they travel to play St. Michaels.
