Delmar Volleyball Downs Holly Grove 3-1
Delmar, DE – The Delmar volleyball team improved their record to 3-2 on the year Monday night after defeating Holly Grove 3-1(25-15, 25-17, 17-25, 25-23). The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead in the first two sets, thanks to some nice outside hitting from Shelby Murphy and Carly Covington. After taking Set 1, the Wildcats stretched their lead to 2-0 after winning Set 2. During that set, the Wildcats got strong play from their middles, particularly from Jessica Elliot who finished with a team best 8 on the night.
But just when you though Delmar was on their way to a sweep, the Eagles fought their way back. Holly Grove would take control of Set 3, after strong serving from a number of players, including Mackenzie Burkhead. In Set 4, the teams would again be in a battle, with the Wildcats pulling a slight edge down the stretch. Leading 24-20, the Eagles would take 3 straight points to get within 1, before the Wildcats would close it out.
Delmar is back in action on Tuesday when they play at Salisbury Christian, while Holly Grove returns to action on Friday when they host Chesapeake Christian.
