Running for a cause

Caitlin Adams, a Preston, Md. native, made a pit stop in Easton Saturday on her run across Maryland to raise awareness and money for Limbs for Life.
Adams says running gives her a natural high, so her mission is to help those in need of prosthetics get them so they can enjoy that running high as well.
Adams, a sophomore at Towson University, actually ran through Easton on Friday but back tracked to run the 5k that was set up by the Easton Business Alliance, Fitness Rx and TriCycle and Run to help Adams raise more awareness for her cause.
Saturday was supposed to be Adams day off but being the kind sprit she is, she said she didn’t mind coming out to run with her supporters.
“Well everybody else is out here supporting so I might as well too and what’s three miles compared to 400,” Adams said.
Those who ran at the 5k, including her former Towson Cross Country teammate and friend Elisabeth Tauber and her father Stephen who traveled from Hartford, Md. to run with Adams, said Adams is inspiration to them.
“I think it’s really cool, I mean you can see Caitlin’s very passionate about the cause and it’s kind of infectious, so it was the least we could do to come and give her some support,” said Tauber.
Another person who is fond of mission Adams is on is Beth Burgess, a double amputee who participated in Saturday’s 5k. Adam’s slowed her normal pace down to walk with Burgess. Burgess said they talked about the trials and tribulations she’s faced as an amputee and she said what Adams is doing is remarkable.
“Prosthetics are a huge life changer. Being able to get up and walk is huge (and) not being able to was one of the worst things I ever experienced,” Adams said. “For her to be able to help support people getting access to those prosthetics is just wonderful.”
Adams is set to finish up her run on Saturday in Ocean City at 10:30 a.m. So far Adams has raised $22,500 for Limbs for Life since the start of her run on May 23.
