Mike Lawrence

I’m Michael Lawrence – the News Director and former Foodie Photog at WMDT.  I grew up outside of Washington D.C. and was inspired to be curious by my mother who worked at the National Geographic Society.    After high school I attended Salisbury State University and graduated with a double major in Communications and Philosophy.  I joined the news team at WMDT in the summer of 2000, quickly witnessing and covering a historic election then one of our nation’s greatest tragedies on September 11th.

Through those events, the people here on Delmarva showed me true character as they came together not only to support one another but to offer aid to their neighbors across the country and the globe.  I take pride in documenting those efforts and listening to our neighbors as they work to make our communities stronger.  I have worked with and supported dozens of rising journalists who have gone on to great success in major markets across the country.  My work has won a Murrow, has been nominated for an regional Emmy, as well as winning over a dozen AP awards.

When I’m not at work I enjoy board games, watching international news, and learning to cook.
