Wicomico County Public Schools placing security vestibules at front entrances

Wicomico County Public Schools are being proactive when it comes to safety.

Parkside High School, along with Wi-Hi and Choices Academy, are installing security vestibules at their front entrance.

They are going to be adding vestibules by first constructing a new wall. Their current security system allows guests to be buzzed in. But from there, they could have the chance to go directly into the schools. What this new security measure will do is send guests straight to the office.

We're told in light of recent shootings, they wanted to make sure they were taking the proper steps to ensure safety.

Paul Butler, the Director Of Communications for Wicomico County Public Schools tells 47 ABC, "We see school shootings happen all over the place and the one thing we can't be naive is that it can't happen here. It can happen anywhere. So we want to make sure as Wicomico County Public Schools, that all of our schools are safe."

Construction started a few weeks ago, but it will be ready by the fall just in time for school.

In the future, they hope to do this for every school.
