Police investigate fatal accident; investigation ongoing

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Sunday afternoon in Millsboro.
According to police, the accident happened at the intersection of Millsboro Highway and Nine Foot Road around 1 PM.
Police say that for unknown reasons, a 2011 Nissan Murano being driven by a 48-year-old Laurel woman turned left onto Nine Foot Road, right into the path of a BMW convertible being driven by a 66-year-old Eden man who was traveling northbound.
In an attempt to try and avoid the collision, the man swerved to the right; however, the front of his car impacted the right front of the Nissan in the middle of the northbound lane.
After the impact, the Nissan rotated in a counter-clockwise direction before coming to rest on the east edge of Millsboro Highway facing in a northeasterly direction.
Meanwhile, the BMW rotated in a clockwise direction before coming to rest on the east edge of Millsboro Highway facing in an easterly direction.
The driver of the Nissan and her three passengers were all wearing their seatbelts. They were taken to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries and released.
The driver of the BMW was not wearing his seatbelt.
He was also taken to the same hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit. The roadway was closed for about three hours during the scene investigation and removal of the vehicles.
