Maryland Ranks Top Ten In Energy Efficiency

SALISBURY, Md. – We're really starting to feel that fall chill now which means many of us are turning up the heat. The good news is If you live in Maryland chances are you're paying less for your bill.

The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy ranked Maryland as one of the top 10 most energy efficient states in the US. Maryland ranked 9th but neighboring states didn't rank as well. Delaware ranked 25th and Virginia was 35th. The ranking is determined by number of factors including utility policies, energy codes and government initiatives.

“I think the awareness is significantly higher here in Maryland, I attribute that to the leadership in Maryland and additionally being closer proximity to Washington, I think there's more focus on energy efficiency,” said Darrell Wilson, Director of Marketing and Communications with Chesapeake Utilities.
